Dublin’s rising star EFÉ has shared her latest material ‘Garden’ from her sultry debut EP ‘What Should We Do This Summer?’ Cleverly released at the end of summer which is unpredictable and nostalgic.
It’s title is perhaps a question we are all considering this year, about what is to come of our plans for next year. Yet this EP was written after EFÉ’s first year at college, so make it your lockdown soundtrack. It’s lyrical timing is perfect and relevant when you look at it from a subjective perspective. We also love the snippets of birdsong in her track ‘Garden’ as is reminiscent of people finding peace in nature during lockdown.
EFÉ reflects, “I started writing this EP around the end of my first year of college, a time where you go through so much change and meet new people – just a very different experience to secondary school. I believe there’s an innocence at the beginning of the EP, and once you reach the end, the answers are different.
I feel like this EP was like a memory of Summer, which was my reasoning for wanting to release this as Summer finishes. The person you were at the start may not be the same person at the end. We’re all just trying to find our way. The main theme within this EP would be growth change. I hope listeners of whatever age just kinda know that many people are in the same boat of trying to figure stuff out and not knowing exactly what it is they want from life. We’re all just trying to navigate our way with, sometimes little to no guidance.”
What we love most about this EP is that it was recorded in a busy lockdown house amongst the backdrop of relatable happenings such as “washing machines, fights, netflix shows, microwaves, and slamming doors” which you can’t hear at all, but knowing this makes you realise that EFÉ’s creativity is unstoppable.
